June 2010 - Peter Yee of Redstone sits on the board of South Burlington Little League as the National League Coordinator.  Redstone also sponsors a team in the league which happened to win the Championship for South Burlington Little League 9-10 year old National League.  The league was composed of 6 equally matched teams.  The playoffs consisted of a double elimination tournament which gave 2 teams a bye into the 2nd round.  The Champion Cubs, led by Ed Hockenberry and Barb Masterson with Peter Yee as second assistant, lost their first game against the talented and extremely well coached Rockies.  Faced with a “win or go home” situation after that the Cubs proceeded to beat the Phillies, then the Rockies, and then the Giants to make it to the 1st Championship game against the Marlins who were able to rest their team because they won the Winners bracket.  If the Marlins won, they would be champs but if the Cubs won, they would have to win a second game against the Marlins the very next day.  Strategy came into play because of Little League rules regarding pitching and pitch counts to save children’s little arms.  After all, we are talking about 9-10 year olds here.  Fast forward to the first Championship game, it was a pitcher’s duel with the Cubs squeaking a single run out of the first 4 innings and then the hit parade came.  Cubs win game one 6-0.  Cubs had to use up a couple of their best pitchers, but so did the Marlins.  The table was set for the 2nd Championship game.  This was going to be a slug fest and the Cubs were down one of their hotter hitters who left for a summer vacation that was planned months ago.  Marlins got off to a hot start scoring 4 runs in the top of the 1st.  Cubs came back in the bottom of the 1st scoring 3 runs.  Marlins only scored 4 more runs in the next 4 innings and the fearless Cubs put the nail in the coffin in the bottom of the 5th with a 2 run double that put the game out of reach and ended the game.  It was like they won the World Series.  There was a big pile of kids and parents were crying - it was just a wonderful sight!  The Marlins were a great team and played well but the Cubs just couldn’t be beat and ended a season that will be remembered for the rest of their lives.  Redstone is proud to be a part of the community and support the South Burlington Little League.  Peter Yee is pictured in the center of the back row.
