June 2006 - Redstone is visibly underway with its historic preservation of the Shelburne Inn along Route 7 in the middle of Shelburne Village. The inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is billed as the oldest building in the Shelburne Village Historic District. The Village lacked the vitality it needed to attract tourists and residents that travel the Shelburne Road corridor. When Redstone purchased the property in January 2005, there was an overwhelming sense in the community that the developers had the vision to revitalize this corner in cooperation with municipal officials. Redstone partners Doug Nedde and Larry Williams have utilized the experience of Chris Quinn, a historic preservationist consultant with whom they have collaborated on another historic preservation project in downtown Burlington. In early June, The Bearded Frog, the first tenant of this restored property opened up to the public – serving dinners by chef owner Michel Mahe. She is working with Nick Hurt on several projects including the redevelopment of the Shelburne Inn at the corner of Route 7 and Falls Road in Shelburne Village. Kimberly typically spends about 8 hours a week at different job sites and is required to keep a weekly journal and write a paper of her experiences at the end of the internship. Kimberly describes the work as “involved and very fun” and says the opportunity Redstone has provided is helping her grasp the scope of work involved in this field. Her major is Community and International Development, and she transferred to UVM after spending two years in the Navy at the US Merchant Marine Academy. Kimberly plans to graduate in December 2006 and hopes to stay in Vermont and find work doing sustainable development at the community level. [Pictured L to R: Kimberly Ianelli and Nick Hurt]
